For our project, we took the word studs. The word which exists mainly for black lesbians, is also used by white lesbians. And we wanted to know more about the history of the word and other terms.

Words I had not heard before: Stemme
“Urban Dictionary: Stemme.” Urban Dictionary, 6 Sept. 2012, www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Stemme.

Our project is about lesbians and mainly black lesbians and the terms that are used to describe them, there are a lot of words that lesbians and queer women use themselves and they themselves have a very rich history and we want to delve more into that. The terms that are mainly used now are terms and labels that are used and applied from a white perspective/white point of view. And the people are being seen from a white gaze and we want to turn that around and speak more about it, and try to educate people.

But also the difference between being a black woman and then queer or lesbian and how that can differ from each other. How you can be seen and how you can't be seen at all and all that by throwing sexuality into the mix.
MANIFESTO FORMULATED DURING CLASS

Our project is about lesbians, with a focus on black lesbians and the term that are used to describe them. There are a lot of terms that lesbians and queer woman use themselves, with a very rich history, that are not talked about enough. For instance the term stud originates from the African american community. A stud is a masculine presenting lesbian. A stud must be black in order to be called as such. As you can see there a different layers to this which are meant to be told. What is always told from a white gaze,

Something like this, maybe also add something about visibility I think that is an interesting part. Black woman are not seen, but Studs are very visible. And I think that is important to mentions as well
